Duke's Global Travel Advisory Committee (GTAC) advises Duke leadership as to the safety and security of destinations around the globe.
The Global Travel Advisory Committee (GTAC) is convened three times annually to review the Duke Restricted Regions List (RRL) in its entirety. It also convenes when conditions warrant (i.e., when world events call for a review of a location) and/or when a petition for Undergraduate/Medical Resident or House Staff who wish to travel to a destination on the RRL is received. The committee advises the Provost on policy matters, travel destinations, and other travel-related issues.
GTAC consists of faculty from every School and several Institutes (recommended by their Deans and Directors) as well as leaders of programs that conduct student travel. The Provost appoints all committee members to serve two-year terms, which are renewable upon mutual agreement.
Any member of the Duke Community, at any time, can request a review of a particular destination, or of their travel plans, for an assessment of the safety and security situation or to reconsider Duke's position. Requests and inquiries should be sent to the Travel Policy Administrator. Note: Asterisks (*) below indicate that the individual is a member of the GTAC Executive Committee.
